Beauty Tips For a Natural Summer Glow

With summer just around the corner, everyone wants to achieve that natural summer glow. Despite the warnings that the sun (and tanning beds) cause pre-mature aging and even skin cancer, they are still as hot as ever. Have no fear, whether you r tan comes from the sun or from a bottle, you can create a very natural glow that will last all day and won't require extensive maintenance.

It is important when using a sunless tanner that you properly prep your skin. I recommend using a gentle scrub to buff away dead skin cells. This will help your tan develop evenly. In addition to this, you can use an over-the counter glycolic acid peel every other day. You will want to apply your regular moisturizer next. It is important to let it soak into your skin so that your tanner will soak in evenly. Otherwise, your tan will appear darker in dry areas of your skin. It is also important when choosing a sunless tanner for your face, that you choose one made for your skin type. If your skin is oily, for example, make sure you choose a formula that is oil-free and non-comedogenic. If your skin is very dry, you will want to choose a formula that contains some oils to help moisturize your skin. Apply your tanner with a make-up sponge avoiding the eye area and let sink in to your skin before applying your make-up.

I always recommend keeping two shades of foundation on hand. One that is the exact natural shade of your skin and one a shade darker. That way, as your skin begins to darken, you can always blend the shades to create an exact match of your skin shade. It's also a good idea to add a little bit of a liquid bronze highlighter to your foundation. Apply a light coat of liquid concealer one shade lighter than the current shade of your skin around the entire eye area before applying your foundation. For blemishes, use a creamy concealer that matches your current skin tone exactly. Finish with a loose powder that either matches your current skin tone or is up to one shade darker. If your skin is very dry, apply very lightly.

Dust your eyes up to the brow bone with a light bronze or golden eyeshadow. This will highlight your eyes. You can apply in the crease a darker shade to add depth. Finish with a coating of waterproof mascara. A good waterproof mascara will stay put all day and not run even on the most humid of days. Dust your cheekbones and T-zone with a shimmering bronzing powder and finish the whole look with a nude, pinky-nude or bronze lip gloss. If your skin is very dry, you can substitute a liquid or cream bronzer for the powder one. However, when the humidity is high, most skin-types will benefit more from the powder.

This will create a simple natural look. You can dress this up of course with waterproof eyeliner. You can layer blush in the apples of your cheeks under your bronzer. You can use lipstick and lip liner if you prefer. Most importantly, have fun with your look!
